MORE THAN A CITY TOUR

Understand what you’re looking at.
And who to ask next.

A neighborhood name, a Council district, and a zoning map tell different stories. Learn to connect them with history, infrastructure, housing, public budgets, and the people doing the work.

Built for residents, professionals, landowners, nonprofit leaders, and curious newcomers. No property, political connections, or prior experience required.

THE WHOLE CITY, ONE STUDY AT A TIME

Fourteen communities.
A method you can repeat.

Follow Metro’s planning communities, then study Council districts separately. Each field study can be completed on a public route or through official online records.

01

Joelton

Choose one publicly accessible road segment within the mapped Joelton planning area. How do the mapped policy, visible settlement pattern and access to a public facility differ? Identify what requires a source check rather than an assumption.

Read the official community plan ↗Field-study prompt by Smart Girl Developments. Planning-community boundaries do not equal Council districts.

CONNECTION STARTS WITH PREPARATION

A better question opens
a better conversation.

01 / PREPARE

Know the role.

Read the public record and identify who can answer the question. A friendly conversation is more useful when the request is clear.

02 / CONNECT

Ask, then listen.

Introduce yourself honestly. Ask one useful question. Understand the answer before moving to your own opinion.

03 / FOLLOW THROUGH

Keep your promise.

Send the promised note, record the source, and follow up respectfully. Courtesy does not equal endorsement or special access.
